Believe it or not, until last night I had never seen the movie Boogie Nights.  Hard to believe it’s been around ten years, and while I had always meant to see it, I wasn’t excited enough to put it on my netflix queue or anything like that.  Well, to give full disclosure I have seen the scenes online where Heather Graham was naked, so I had already seen what I had pre-perceived to be the best parts of the movie (btw, kudos to Heather Graham for getting naked on film)!

Anyways… I had always been under the impression that the movie was based on John Holmes and while I don’t know a ton about what his life was like during his successful years, I recall vividly the details of his decline — yes, my mind is truly a fucked up place.

So I was glad to see that Boogie Nights tackled some of the history, like the scene that was reminscent of the Wonderland Murders  and the rampant drug abuse.  But I was horribly disappointed with the ending.  While they touched upon the gay angle they never went all the way like John Holmes did, they also didn’t recount his AIDS infection which killed him.

I know this wasn’t a story of John Holmes, but then ending just seemed lacking… I really don’t understand where they were trying to take it with that ending.  I’m not saying I necessarily need to learn some moral from every movie, especially one based on the 1970’s & 1980’s porn scene, but give me some sort of climax for gad’s sake.
